SEO Services · JY Media Lab, Kuala Lumpur

An SEO agency in Malaysia built for Google, and for AI answers.

Search is splitting in two: the results page you know, and the AI answer that increasingly sits above it. We do the work that gets Malaysian businesses found in both: the technical fixes, the content people actually search for, and the structured data that AI systems cite. One team, honest timelines, and your accounts stay in your name.

78 brands · 9 industries · 15+ active Malaysian clients

The short answer
Layer 01Classic SEOTechnical health, content that matches real searches, and local visibility in Google.
Layer 02AI searchAnswer blocks, structured data and entity signals, so AI tools cite you by name.
Layer 03ProofA recorded baseline before we start, and monthly reporting measured against it.

JY Media Lab is a digital marketing agency in Kuala Lumpur, and this is our SEO service for Malaysian businesses. We handle the technical work, write the content, and build the structured data that gets a site found in Google search and cited in AI answers from tools like ChatGPT, Gemini and Google's AI Overviews. SEO here sits inside the same team that runs paid media and builds landing pages, so the pages that rank are the same pages built to convert, and the tracking behind them is set up once, correctly. We record where your site stands before we touch anything, then report every month against that baseline. No guaranteed rankings, no invented numbers: scoped work, measured honestly.

What you get

What our SEO services in Malaysia actually cover.

SEO is not one task, it is a system of six. Most disappointment with SEO companies comes from buying one slice of this list and expecting the results of all six.

Technical SEO

A site Google can read

Crawlability, indexation, page speed, mobile rendering, canonical and sitemap hygiene. The unglamorous layer that decides whether anything else works. We audit it first and fix what blocks you.

Content & on-page

Pages that answer real searches

Keyword research from Google's own data, then pages and articles mapped to what Malaysians actually type: the service searches, the cost questions, the comparisons. Written to be read, not stuffed.

Local SEO

Found where you operate

Google Business Profile setup and upkeep, consistent business details across the web, and location-relevant pages, so nearby customers searching for what you do actually find you.

Answer engine optimization

Cited in AI answers

Direct answer blocks, FAQ and Service structured data, and clear entity signals. The layer that decides whether ChatGPT, Gemini and AI Overviews name your business or skip it.

Authority

Signals search engines trust

Directory and profile consistency, schema that ties your pages to one verifiable organisation, and earned mentions built patiently. No bought link schemes: they are rented risk, not authority.

Measurement

Reporting against a baseline

Search Console and Analytics wired up before work starts, a recorded baseline of impressions, clicks and enquiries, and monthly reporting that shows movement against it. Evidence, not vibes.

The fundamentals

What search engine optimization actually is.

Strip the jargon away and SEO is one job: making your website the easiest, most trustworthy answer to searches your customers already type. Everything we sell fits inside that sentence.

Google runs three stages, and each one can quietly fail for a business. First it crawls: software visits your site and reads the pages. A site with broken links, blocked pages or painfully slow loading gets read partially or not at all. Then it indexes: what was read gets filed against the searches it might answer. Duplicate pages, thin content and missing structure get filed badly or skipped. Finally it ranks: for each search, Google orders everything in the index by how well it answers, how trustworthy the site looks, and how well it works for people, especially on phones.

Search engine optimization in Malaysia is the same discipline as anywhere, applied to how Malaysians actually search: a mix of English and Malay queries, heavy mobile use, and near-me intent for anything local. The volumes are real. Google's Keyword Planner puts the "seo malaysia" query family at around 2,900 searches a month and "seo agency malaysia" at 2,400, and behind them sit thousands of monthly searches for the services businesses here actually sell. Your customers are typing already; SEO decides whether they find you or someone else.

What has changed recently is the fourth stage sitting on top: AI systems that read the same index but answer directly, in sentences, naming a handful of businesses instead of listing ten links. That layer rewards the same fundamentals, plus some new ones, and it is where the next section goes.

AI SEO in Malaysia

The answer is replacing the results page.

Ask ChatGPT or Gemini to recommend a service in Kuala Lumpur and it names two or three businesses. It does not show ten blue links. Being one of the names it gives is a different discipline from ranking, and it is already part of how Malaysians choose.

Google now answers many searches directly at the top of the page with AI Overviews, and buying research that once started at a search box now also starts inside AI chat tools. Those systems do not rank pages the way Google's classic results do. They retrieve, compare and cite: they pull from sites they can parse cleanly, prefer content that answers questions directly, and lean on structured data and consistent entity signals to decide which businesses are real and worth naming.

That is why our SEO service builds two layers at once. The classic layer gets you into the results page. The answer layer, often called answer engine optimization or AEO, makes your pages quotable: short direct answers where AI systems look for them, FAQ and Service schema that machines parse without guessing, and one consistent organisation identity across your site, your Google Business Profile and your public listings.

In practice, the AEO work we ship looks like this: a short, direct answer block near the top of every page that matters, written to be quotable on its own; FAQPage and Service structured data so machines parse your offer without guessing; one organisation identity, with the same name, address and details, wired through every page's schema and matched on your public profiles; and content organised so a system retrieving one section gets a complete, accurate claim rather than a fragment. None of it is exotic. It is disciplined clarity, applied where machines read.

We practise this on ourselves. The pages of our own site carry the same answer blocks, the same structured data and the same entity wiring we build for clients, and our free Marketing Readiness Check is part of the same practice. When we propose this work for your site, we are proposing something we already run, not a theory. For the full explainer, including what nobody can promise in this space, read what AI SEO actually is.

Classic SEO gets you listed

Crawlable site, healthy pages, content matched to searches, local signals. The layer that earns a position on the results page and compounding organic traffic over months.

AEO gets you quoted

Answer-first copy, FAQPage and Service schema, entity consistency. The layer that gives AI systems something safe to cite when someone asks them who to use.

SEO or ads first?

Rented visibility, owned visibility.

We run both, so we have no reason to oversell either. Paid ads and SEO answer different questions, and the honest comparison is about time, not which one is "better".

Google Ads: fast, metered

Live in days, precise targeting, and you pay per click at auction rates. On Google's Keyword Planner the top-of-page bid for "seo agency malaysia" runs roughly RM12 to RM86 per click, and commercial terms across industries behave the same way. Stop paying and the visibility stops the same day.

SEO: slow, compounding

Months to build, but every position earned keeps taking clicks without a meter running. The page that ranks this month still answers searches next year, and the same content is what AI answers cite. It is infrastructure, not spend.

The sequencing we usually recommend: if you need enquiries this month, ads carry the demand while the organic engine gets built underneath. As rankings arrive, the blend shifts and your average cost per enquiry falls. If nobody searches for what you sell yet, neither channel saves you, and we will say so in the scoping. How we run the paid side is on our Google Ads page.

What SEO costs

SEO pricing in Malaysia, without the mystery.

Most SEO pricing pages hide the number. Here is what the market actually charges, so you can judge any quote, including ours.

Across Malaysian SEO agencies that publish their prices, monthly retainers cluster into three bands. The spread is driven by scope: how many keywords and pages are worked on, how much content is produced, and how competitive your industry's search results are.

Entry
RM800–1,500 /mo

Small keyword sets and limited hours. Enough for a simple local business with light competition, thin for anything more.

Growth
RM2,500–4,500 /mo

Where most growing SMEs sit. Room for real content production, technical work and authority building each month.

Competitive
RM4,500–8,000 /mo

Crowded, high-stakes categories: healthcare, legal, finance, competitive e-commerce. The work is heavier because the bar is higher.

Market ranges from the published price pages of Malaysian SEO agencies, checked August 2026. This is education, not our quote: we scope by your goal and tell you what a budget can and cannot do before anything is signed.

For context on what visibility is worth: on Google's own Keyword Planner, a single top-of-page ad click on "seo agency malaysia" is currently bid at roughly RM12 to RM86, and the broader "seo malaysia" family sees the same spread. That is the going rate for one visit, paid every time. A page that ranks organically takes that click without the meter running, which is why SEO, held long enough, tends to become the cheapest traffic a business owns.

The honest caveat: cheap SEO is usually expensive. Real SEO work is skilled hours every month, and a retainer too small to fund those hours pays for activity reports instead of outcomes. If your budget only stretches to the entry band, we would rather tell you to focus it on one tight goal, or wait, than take it and underdeliver. The full cost breakdown, including retainer versus one-time projects, is in what SEO costs in Malaysia.

Ask what your budget can actually do
Local SEO

Winning the search that ends in a visit.

"Near me" searches, and searches with a suburb or city attached, carry the clearest intent of all: someone nearby wants the thing now. Local SEO is the work of being the business they find.

For a Malaysian business that serves a physical area, the local layer often moves enquiries faster than anything else on this page. It runs on three things. Your Google Business Profile, complete, accurate and actively maintained, because that is what feeds the map results shown above the classic listings. Consistency, because your name, address and phone number should read identically on your site, your profile and every directory that mentions you; disagreement erodes the trust signals both Google and AI systems check. And location-relevant pages on your own site, so the areas and services you cover are stated where a crawler can read them, not just implied.

We set all three up as part of the engagement, and the same consistency work doubles as entity building for the AI layer: when every public record of your business agrees, machines can be confident who you are, and confident machines cite you.

Who this is for

Built for businesses that sell to Malaysians.

We work with growing Malaysian businesses across nine industries, including e-commerce, local services, real estate, healthcare and B2B, the same client base behind the 78 brands our team has managed. The searches differ by industry, but the pattern holds: an e-commerce store fights for category and product terms, a clinic or law firm lives on trust-heavy local searches where the authority bar is highest, a B2B firm ranks for the problems its buyers research months before they enquire, and a local service wins or loses on the map pack. Scoping starts with which of those games you are in, because that decides where the first months of work go.

How we work

The engagement, month by month.

Every engagement follows the same spine, scoped to your goal. You see the work list every month, and everything we build lives in your accounts and your site, not ours.

01

Baseline and audit

We wire up Search Console and Analytics if they are missing, crawl the site, and record exactly where you stand: impressions, clicks, indexed pages, technical faults. Every later report is measured against this record.

02

Fix what blocks you

Technical repairs first: crawl and indexation problems, speed, mobile rendering, broken structure. There is no point publishing content onto a site Google struggles to read.

03

Build pages that answer searches

Keyword research from Google's own data decides the map: service pages, cost and comparison content, local pages. Each one written to answer the search plainly, with answer blocks and schema built in from the start.

04

Build authority and entity trust

Consistent business details across directories and profiles, structured data that ties every page to one verifiable organisation, and earned visibility built steadily. This is the slow layer, and the one AI answers lean on hardest.

05

Measure, report, adjust

Monthly reporting against the recorded baseline: what moved, what did not, what we are doing about it. When something is not working, you hear it from us first, with the change we propose.

On timelines, we will tell you what we tell everyone: months, not weeks. New pages and fixes can start registering impressions within weeks, but three to six months is the honest window to judge an SEO engagement, because trust compounds as Google re-crawls and tests the site. We set that expectation up front so nobody is sold a sprint and delivered a marathon.

Concrete, not vague

What a month of SEO actually ships.

We said earlier that "ongoing optimisation" is where retainers go to disappear. So here is the opposite: the kind of work list a month of our SEO service produces, in plain terms.

Every month

Work you can point at

Pages published or rewritten, technical fixes shipped, schema added or repaired, profile and directory updates made. Each item is named in the report, so "what did we pay for this month" always has a specific answer.

Every month

Movement against the baseline

Impressions, clicks and enquiries measured against the recorded starting point, with the queries that moved and the ones that have not. Where something stalls, the report says what changes next month, not just that it stalled.

As scoped

Content built to earn its place

Service pages, cost and comparison guides, and answers to the questions your customers actually ask before buying. Written in plain language, structured for both the results page and the AI answer, and reviewed with you before publishing.

As needed

Honest calls, early

If a keyword is not worth chasing, a page should be cut instead of polished, or the budget would work harder in another channel that quarter, you hear it from us with the reasoning, before more money goes into it.

The exact mix depends on your scope, which is what the free scoping settles: what your goal needs, what your budget funds, and what we would do in the first ninety days. That list is yours to keep whether or not you hire us.

Choosing well

How to choose an SEO company in Malaysia.

You are hiring judgment you cannot easily verify. These are the questions that cut through, and we answer them ourselves further down this page.

Question 01

What exactly happens each month?

Ask for the concrete work list: which pages, which fixes, how much content. Vague deliverables like "ongoing optimisation" are where retainers go to disappear.

Question 02

Who does the work?

An agency, a consultant who subcontracts, or a reseller white-labelling someone offshore. Any of these can work, but you should know which one you are paying for.

Question 03

What do they measure?

Rankings alone are a vanity layer. Ask whether reporting covers impressions, clicks and actual enquiries, and whether a baseline is recorded before work starts.

Question 04

Who owns what you pay for?

Content, accounts and access should live in your name. If cancelling means losing the pages or the data, the retainer was rent, not investment.

On the consultant versus agency question: a consultant advises and leaves you a to-do list, which suits businesses with an in-house team to execute. If you do not have one, you need people who do the work end to end. We are the second kind: the same team runs the SEO, builds the pages and owns the tracking, alongside the Google Ads and wider digital marketing it feeds.

We wrote two fuller guides on this: how to choose an SEO agency in Malaysia for this specific hire, and how to choose a digital marketing agency for vetting any agency at all.

Before you sign

Five promises that should slow you down, whoever makes them. Including us.

Red flag 01

"Guaranteed page one"

Nobody outside Google controls the results page. A guarantee either hides an easy target nobody searches for, or a refund clause doing the marketing.

Red flag 02

"Results in 30 days"

Real SEO compounds over months. Thirty-day promises usually mean tricks that spike briefly and invite a penalty, or metrics chosen because they move easily.

Red flag 03

Reports you cannot act on

Fifty pages of ranking positions with no line connecting them to traffic or enquiries. If a report does not say what changed and what happens next, it is wallpaper.

Red flag 04

Links by the hundred

Bulk backlink packages are the fastest route to a Google penalty that costs more to clean up than the retainer ever did. Authority is earned slowly or not at all.

The fifth: any engagement that starts without recording a baseline. If nobody writes down where you stood on day one, every future claim of progress is unfalsifiable. It is the first thing we do, and you keep the record.

Questions we get

Asked about SEO.

01

How much does an SEO agency in Malaysia charge?

Malaysian SEO agencies that publish their prices list monthly packages from around RM800 at the entry level, RM2,500 to RM4,500 for most growing SMEs, and RM4,500 to RM8,000 for competitive industries such as healthcare, legal and finance. We do not sell fixed packages: we scope by your goal and tell you what a given budget can and cannot achieve before anything is signed. The cost section above breaks the bands down.

02

How long does SEO take to show results?

Months, not weeks. Technical fixes and new pages can start registering impressions within weeks, but we treat three to six months as the honest window to judge an engagement, because rankings compound as Google re-crawls, tests and trusts the site. Anyone promising page one in thirty days is describing luck or risk, not a method.

03

Do you guarantee first-page rankings?

No, and we would ask hard questions of anyone who does, because nobody outside Google controls the results page. What we commit to instead is scoped, visible work every month, a recorded baseline before we start, and reporting that measures enquiries and traffic against that baseline, so you can see exactly what changed.

04

What is AI SEO, and is it different from normal SEO?

AI SEO, also called answer engine optimization, is the work of getting your business named and cited inside AI-generated answers from tools like ChatGPT, Gemini and Google's AI Overviews. It builds on classic SEO: the same crawlable site and clear content, plus direct answer blocks, structured data, and entity signals that AI systems use to decide who to cite. We build both layers together, and we run the same practice on our own site.

05

Do I need SEO if I am already running Google Ads?

Ads buy visibility for as long as you pay; SEO builds visibility you keep. On Google's Keyword Planner, a single top-of-page click on a term like "seo agency malaysia" is bid at roughly RM12 to RM86. A page that ranks organically takes that same click without the per-click cost, and keeps taking it. The two work best together: ads cover demand today while the organic engine is built.

06

Are you an SEO consultant or a full agency?

A full team. A consultant advises and hands you a to-do list; our team does the work: the technical fixes, the pages, the structured data and the tracking. SEO at JY Media Lab sits inside the same team that runs paid media and builds landing pages, so the pages that rank are the same pages built to convert.

07

What do you need from us to start?

Access to your website, Google Search Console and Google Analytics, or our help setting them up if they do not exist yet. Everything stays in your name and your accounts. We start by recording a baseline of where you actually stand, so every later report is measured against evidence rather than memory.

08

Can we just do SEO ourselves?

Early on, yes, and we would encourage it: claim your Google Business Profile, keep your details consistent, and write pages that plainly answer what customers ask. Those basics are free and worth doing regardless. Where an agency earns its fee is past that point: technical diagnosis, content production at a pace that compounds, structured data done correctly, and the patience to run it every month while you run the business. If the basics are all you need for now, the scoping will say so.
